A super escapee from a dental routine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

My 5 yrs old boxer dog is a defensive dog when it comes to cleaning her teeth. I've tried the best (and the easiest I've ever seen) dog toothbrush, still she is reluctant of letting me brush her teeth. The only thing she accepts is my finger, and am considering buying a finger-brush but its so difficult to find them in New Zealand.





Any suggestions?





PS Haven't introduced brushing to her until recently, I know it's a little too late but my dad won't let me buy anything for my little girl apart from food and worming tablets. The other supplies like grooming, flea products and toys, over the years I secretly bought stuffs for her, got pretty much everything now.

Just feed her a nice raw meaty bone from the grocery. A beef soup bone will do the trick. The bone will provide her hours of entertainment and in the process it will scrape her teeth very clean. It is what nature intended. Trust me, you will not have to worry about yucky teeth if you just give the dog a raw meaty bone! I have been raw feeding for 5 years and all 6 of my Danes have pearly whites! No brushing going on here. Instead of trying to humanize the dog with tooth brushing, just go back to nature and let raw meaty bones take care of the issue!





Chalice.. Your answer is wrong. Danes teeth are no more special then any other breed. If they are fed crapinabag kibble then their teeth are going to collect just as much gunk as any other breed. Dental disease effects some 80 to 90% of dogs before they reach the age of 5. Danes live a lot longer then 5 years so not sure how you came to the conclusion that they are not effected by dental disease.

Or a piece of rawhide which is pretty cheap will do the trick, but make sure its a regular thing.
Reply:I get raw soup bones from the butcher for my dogs. It helps but, we still clean their teeth at least once weekly.
Reply:Boxers have that whole gum epulus thing, making it doubly important to keep their teeth clean. I'm not saying bones don't work - obviously they can - but if you do want to clean teeth a finger brush is a great idea.
