Why are parents blaming dentists for their childrens dental problems?

A few days ago I posted a question asking why so many parents are neglecting their childrens teeth. After reading the last answer from a woman who I obviously offended, I felt compelled to respond on the behalf of all dental professionals from dentists down to assistants. We are not all money hungry. Dental supplies are expensive as well as the overhead costs in a dental office. You want everything sterile dont you???? You want well trained staff??? Well this is not free!! Dentists have bills to pay, including salaries.Dental assistants and hygientist deserve to be paid well for their knowledge of the field. So yes, we expect to be paid up front for dental services If we dont, some people will have the work done and never finish paying for it.There are dental financing programs out there.(Care Credit).Stop making excuses for your kids decay. Some are caused by health problems, but I can tell you one thing for sure, none were caused by your dentist!!! Sugar and sugar alone causes decay!

Why are parents blaming dentists for their childrens dental problems?
Its not so much the dentists fault as it is the parents....What I mean by this is that as parents, we have to make sure our children brush their teeth regularly, watch their sugar intake and take them to visit the dentist as they are supposed to. If we neglect our childrens teeth, we have to ask ourselves,--what else are we neglecting??
Reply:Punk Princess, get a grip. StarGazer, thank you, very well put and so true! Report It

Reply:Thanks for this- do you feel better now that you have had a spotlight to vent in??????????

I for one have NEVER blamed my children's teeth issues on their dentist.
Reply:I thought it was plaque that causes decay? well I guess that show how much I know about dentistry.
Reply:As a mother of 2 I totally agree with you , Im constantly telling them dont chew on that, get it out of your mouth, dont eat that before bed. I do as much as I can and I am always saying brush your teeth, they see me brush mine all the time. BUT I cannot afford the dentist even though i work full time and pay for ins. LUCKILY for me I do get state help with medical card THank God!@
Reply:Yes the children teeth must be care very well because it will infrluence their success in the future. No sugar or brush his/her teeth after sugar or after meal.
Reply:I dont think it's neglect as much as it is mis education my children have had cavities and my two year old is currently awaiting sedation to fix his teeth(got damn sippy cup)who would have thunk ,I dont have candy in the house but all the juices they sell are worse than candy I never knew ,I thought juice was healthier for them so it's now water, water, water, I also never knew that small children should floss or be flosse I'm a very cautious mom and belive me when I took them for there 6 month check up I felt like a monster for there teeth not being as healthly as I thought (cavaties in between teeth never saw them)...I now am so freaking scared of my son's work(getting sedated and all) and cant wait for it to be over ...But I have to comend my dentist for the education lesson he gave me on my children teeth for the future. You see as a child I never once went to a dentist so this was all new to me and I only had one cavity at 30years old, with all the other stuff parents are taught I belive a dental hygeine class is one that would benefit us all not to metion save us a butt load of money and emotional distress watching our kids have work done at an early age....Thank You for bringing this very important subject out in the open....

Dental Supplies?

Does anyone have any good sites to share that have Dental products for sale to dentists?

One with pictures of the products would be nice because it will be bad to buy something without knowing what it looks like.

And common sense people, if someone posted your website already, then theres no need to post it again.

Thankyou and Happy Thanksgiving!

They have great prices, and will 'beat' other quotes...

If you don't know what something looks like without the aid of a picture, with all due respect dental supply companies will only sell their merchandise to dental professionals.

For dental hygenist's.. do you have to buy and supply your own instruments?

I would highly recommend so.........it is always safe to ahve control over your things and have them closely moniotred as the way they used or washed or disinfected or what ever process is needed to maintain its hygienic purposes..while some mostly are disposable,, it is always good have a supply of your own.............

Does the amount of fluoride in our water supply affect our dental health?

This is a piece of research I am doing for college and am interested to find out what people know about the issue.

Does the amount of fluoride in our water supply affect our dental health?
absolutely. but not in a good way.

Fluoride is an essential trace mineral in the human body and is pervasive in about every aspect of our world:

No matter what type we ingest or absorb, it all leads to body burden and can be toxic. Eventhough fluoride is essential for bones and teeth to grow and remain healthy, only topical applications have been shown to fight tooth decay.

There are different kinds of fluoride. The kind in water is a waste product from fertilizer plants, hydrofluorosilic fluoride:

See below for info on the water fluoridation scam and what happens when we get too much fluoride. Here is an excerpt:

“Hydrofluorosilic acid does not occur in nature,” said Connett. “Naturally occurring fluoride has calcium that combines with the fluoride. It’s pure fluoride, not this waste. You wouldn’t use industrial grade to put fluoride into toothpaste. Why should you put it into water? The only answer you get is because it’s cheap,” Connett said.

Reply:I think that's why they put flouride in the water.
Reply:there is no fluroride in our water! "yet"
Reply:Wow i was actually wondering this myself! Sorry cant help u out but be interesyed to see what people say!
Reply:some dentists think that people who drink tap water (with fluoride) have stronger teeth than those who drink only bottled water
Reply:Fluoride is definitely beneficial for our teeth and I believe there are now a couple of water companies doing experiments to introduce it into their systems. East Anglia was the first to try a couple of years back I believe. One bad thing about fluoride is that it's bad for fish so I don't know what levels exactly the water authorities are able to introduce.
Reply:Funny you should ask, I was at the dentist today with my 2 year old daughter and he told me because our water has fluoride in it to not use tooth past with fluoride in it because it will cause her adult teeth to come in with white spots all over them (fluorosis) This probably doesn't apply to adults because they don't swallow toothpaste but when I am brushing my daughters teeth she swallows a little, so too much fluoride as a child can cause your adult teeth to have problems.
Reply:Fluoride is a mineral that occurs naturally in many foods and water. Every day, minerals are added to and lost from a tooth's enamel layer through two processes, demineralization and remineralization. Minerals are lost (demineralization) from a tooth's enamel layer when acids - formed from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth - attack the enamel. Minerals such as fluoride, calcium and phosphate are redeposited (remineralization) to the enamel layer from the foods and waters consumed. Too much demineralization without enough remineralization to repair the enamel layer leads to tooth decay.

Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth. It also reverses early decay. In children under six years of age, fluoride becomes incorporated into the development of permanent teeth, making it difficult for acids to demineralize the teeth. Fluoride also helps speed remineralization as well as disrupts acid production in already erupted teeth of both children and adults.

It is certainly important for infants and children between the ages of 6 months and 16 years to be exposed to fluoride. These are the timeframes during which the primary and permanent teeth come in. However, adults benefit from fluoride too. New research indicates that topical fluoride - from toothpastes, mouth rinses, and fluoride treatments - are as important in fighting tooth decay as in strengthening developing teeth.

In addition, people with certain conditions may be at increased risk of tooth decay and would therefore benefit from additional fluoride treatment. They include people with:
Reply:Yes, too much can cause flourosis and too little can cause your teeth to be weak. We have flouride added to our tap water, and our dentist still gives my son a flouride treatment at the office. We had to add it to our well water when he was small and the dentist has him brush with flouride toothpaste.

Dental Supplies?

Hi,

I'm a dental assistant in the UK and the company I work for uses Henry Schein for most of the dental supplies.

However, I'm not aware of this company able to supply Kimberly-Clark SAFEVIEW protective eyewear.

Does anyone know of a UK based company who can provide Kimberly-Clark SAFEVIEW protective eyewear?

If not, which company do you use for dental supplies, who might be able to supply similar protective eyewear?

Thank you.

Dental Supplies?
I don't know about Kimberly-Clark but I get my safety glasses from Practacon. We use Burkhart for our supplies but you should be able to talk to your salesman and see if they have them if they don't they should be able to find a way to get it.
Reply:search online..there is agreat company called ivoclar vivadent...and its products are perfect
Reply:My company uses a dental supply company called Dental Directory or maybe try RED apple, both good companies and not to expensive.

Reply:No, can't say I would and it gives me the creeps just thinking about it................
Reply:Creepy
Reply:This reminds me of a story.... One day, My grandmother came to visit us. My friend ( a masseuse), her husband, my grandmother, and I were all relaxing in the hot tub. We were having a cocktail, enjoying some light conversation, and watching the stars. During this peaceful moment, my grandmother FREAKED and jumped from the tub. As it turns out, my Masseuse friend had decided to suck my grandmother's toes to relax her.

Considering my grandmother's reaction, i would never suck anyone's toes... Despite my anal tendencies toward oral hygiene, I wouldn't eve do it for a life-time supply of floss.
Reply:No and I don't have any gramdma's living. :(

Where can i dispose of dirty needles? i work for a dental supply company and i was asked to find out.?

And no i dont do drugs lol.

Where can i dispose of dirty needles? i work for a dental supply company and i was asked to find out.?
Why are you in charge of that? The office should know that. Contact the local health department and ask them where a dental supply company can dispose of used needles. Most likely the company must pay for a service. Or contact the board of dentistry in your state and ask them.
Reply:Next time you order supplies, get a "Sharps Box" aka Red Box
Reply:My ex-boyfriend was a tattoo artist and he used to put the dirty needles into this special plastic container--i think it was orange, that has the hazardous sign on it. Then you probably give it to a specific collector. Sorry I'm being vague!
Reply:Most places I've seen with medical waste use "hazardous waste" containers to eliminate blood, needles, etc. They are taken away by specialists . Maybe call a hospital and ask them the name of the professional they use.
Reply:I'd call a local hospital and ask for the maintenance department. I'm sure they'd be willing to tell you where they dispose of their medical waste.
Reply:You need a sharps container and they are picked up by companies specializing in biohardous waste disposal.

BTW.. If the dental supply company is asking YOU, they are clueless and I would go work somewhere else.
Reply:You don't do anything with the needles inside. they are meant to stay there and the entire container is diposed of. The dental office you work at should have informed you of where to dispose of the containers.

We used to put them in a red bag once the container was full, then you lock it. and dispose of it.
Reply:needles should be placed in a "sharps" box for disposal. The disposal is done by a medical waste collection company. What company will depend on just whre you are located.

I believe the sharps box is either disposable itself , or there is an inner container that is tossed.
Reply:You can take the full (only up to the maximum fill line) sharps container to your local hospital, or call them and ask which disposal company they use for destroying their used sharps.

Can somebody tell me what happened to Accubite dental supply? Thanks?

Tooth Ache

I work for a Dental Supply Company. My job is to sell stuff on ebay. Lately sales have been real bad?

How can I improve the sales for my company. Please help... TY...The reason I am asking for help is because my boss just told me i need to improve the sales.. But I am doing all that i can do, i listed all the products we have. We have an ebay store and its all on the customers, for how much sales we make. I believe he infered to me that i need to boost the sales or i can lose my job. Which is completely unfair.

I work for a Dental Supply Company. My job is to sell stuff on ebay. Lately sales have been real bad?
If your job is to sell, there will always be pressure to sell more. It's good that you're on e-Bay, but how many people know that you are there. Spread the word. The more lookers you get, the more buyers.
Reply:I could work with you on improving your ebay listing, aswell as offreing professional advice on maximising ebay sales. Please contact me at sales@bekdesigns.co.uk for a quote.

so plz do u have any idea how would i go for it? and how to contact them on the internet..

Dental supply?
If you don't know who or how to contact, why would you want to sell their products???
Reply:Sorry but I have to agree with Dr Sam. Most dentist would be more likely to buy big items like dental chairs, curing units, handpieces, and such, from a large supply company like Patterson or Sullivan Schein.
