Are prisoners in America given toothbrushes and shampoo?

Someone told me that they are not given these supplies but it seems like the country would be spending millions of dollars on dental work for these guys if they weren't given toothbrushes.

Are prisoners in America given toothbrushes and shampoo?
Yes they are given these items, A lot of times depending on what prison they are in the tooth brush may be given and than have to be turned back in as in psychiatric lock ups because tooth brushes can be sharpened into weapons, However most prisons (including ours) use "bob Barker" tooth brushes and they are pretty flexible. Soap and Shampoo is def given because piss poor hygiene would equal very sick prisoners and that would cause more tax money being spent etc. Their is prison commissaries etc where people can buy better items however basic issue items are given, a basic pair of prison duds flip flops toiletries etc. including a plastic mug for water and chow time and a flexible plastic spoon. Hope this helps......Shadow stalker
Reply:Our prisioners are treated like kings.
Reply:yes little ones that are not that good, there made by bob barker.
Reply:Prisoners are given toothbrushes and shampoos because they live like in a hotel taken from taxes being paid by good citizens. It is the irony of life that those who should be punished are living better than some outside the prisons.
Reply:The prisoners are allowed to buy these things with money they earn in their prison job or money that is put in an account before they go in or put in by a family member
Reply:Yes they are given toothbrushes and shampoo!! They can either get it off of commisary, or if they have no money, then they get indigent items that are supplied from the facility they are staying at?
Reply:Yes they do get those neccesities. They are prisoners but are still human. I work in the medical dept. at a prison, and no they are not treated like KINGS ( as on answer states) if anything they don't have enough medical care.
Reply:No they are not, at least not with the growing numbers of private prisons. In such facilities there is a commissary similar to that of military installations where prisoners have to purchase their own clothing (usually denim jeans and blue button down shirts), grooming essentials, tobacco products and junk foods. Money is sent directly from the prisoners' families to the prison commissary where it is added to their "books" or account. For those who do not have money or families to send these items, churches usually donate enough money to their accounts to provide the bare necessities.
Reply:they have to buy it
Reply:Yes they are given tooth brushes, toothpaste, soap and the such. they are even given choice of "non pork" toothpaste ( yes alot of it has pork byproducts)

they get toliet paper.
Reply:Only if they have teeth, and hair.
Reply:Yes you do get toothbrush and shampoo. I can't believe that people thing people in jail/'prison shouldn't get simple stuff like that. Where I was we got a mini toothbrush and shampoo and other bits and pieces. As others have said if you want better stuff you have to buy it from your own money. Don't see why anybody can object to that - in jail remember alot of people haven't even been convicted and are therefore innocent.
